Flemington would be split into five sections under the bold plan tabled by the Victoria Racing Club to have up to 11,500 spectators on course for this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival.
The club, which wrote to members on Wednesday outlining its initial Cup Carnival crowd plan which was tabled to the Victorian State Government, would need to use the 'full expanses of Flemington' to house those patrons in a COVID-safe way, CEO Steve Rosich revealed.
It has also been revealed the club is working through two plans which would allow members to get access to tickets across the four days of the carnival, given there are more members than likely permitted patrons on course.
Rosich said the club had worked on a strong plan which would allow them to segregate patrons in a COVID-safe way.
Included in that would be a priority member zone, the lawn area zone, and stadium seating, as well as the racing bubble.
When it came to any allocation of spring tickets to members, Rosich said: "11,500-crowd across the four days, that's around about the 45,000 mark.
