Dynamic Syndication’s co-owner Adam Watt speaks with The Impact about his high-value purchases at the recent Australian Thoroughbred sales. Together with his brother Dean has been part of the Dynamic Syndications’ leadership team for the past decade and has been one of the most successful syndicates in the Australasian region today.
Q: You recently purchased some lovely horses at the recent dispersal sale for the Estate of the Late Eduardo Cojuangco. Could you tell us about the background of these horses, and what are your plans for these horses?
A: It’s not always what you know, it’s often whom you know!
Dynamic Syndications earlier this year, were the first of just a handful of outside clients welcomed to spell and pre-train horses at the 5-Star private property near Mudgee.
Under the guidance of industry experts Andrew Baddock and Mack Griffiths, we sent a team of our horses there and they have been thriving.
Andrew and Mack have become an integral part of the Dynamic Team and thanks to them we were able to find out ahead of the market that the Estate was intending to sell the majority of their horses. Working closely with Andrew and Mack, the boys guided us through the historical facts and figures of each horse that was becoming available.
Together we created a select list that we were keen to acquire, to offer our Dynamic Syndications owners access to remarkable, highly prized bloodlines, in sound and right racehorses, all with displayed ability, that had been given the best start to life and the best education.
Dynamic Syndications didn’t miss our targets and purchased each of their highly recommended horses.
We are thrilled to report that Dominant Lady and Awesome Lad are heading to the Jason Deamer Stable at Newcastle, Smart Success is heading to the Richard Freedman Stable at Rosehill, Major Artie and Significant Rule are heading back to Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott at Randwick whilst Too Much Class is heading to Ciaron Maher at Warwick Farm.
All 6 purchases are back in work and will be ready to race in the late Spring.
Q: Could you tell us about the horses you have bought this season as a whole? We would especially like to know about your sales highlights.
A: So far in 2020 we’ve secured 25 outstanding individuals to race in the Dynamic Silks, they’ve been a mixture of Yearlings and Tried Horses and we haven’t finished shopping just yet.
At the yearling sales, we bought a mixture of horses that suit all different tastes and budgets from horses bred to be early and quick to Fillies and Colts destined for Derbies and Oaks paths. We like offering our database a wide variety of options.
The highlight of our Sale Season to date would have to be the opportunity to race a horse with His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, we understand this is the first time he has raced a horse with a Syndicator in Australia and we are very honoured to be racing a gorgeous I Am Invincible Filly with him.
Q: Please tell us about your top 3 most successful horses of your career at Dynamic Syndications?
A: It’s hard to pick 3, we’ve had so many wonderful horses over the years. Since 2005, Dynamic Syndications selected horses have won 664 races and over $16.5 million in prizemoney including 100+ Stakes Results including 3 individual Gr1 Winners including ATOMIC FORCE – Dual Gr1 Winner (Galaxy and NZ Railway Hcp), HE’S NO PIE EATER – Dual Gr.1 Winner (Chipping Norton and Rosehill Guineas) and REWARD FOR EFFORT – Gr1 Winner (Blue Diamond).
Dynamic Syndications Managing Director (Dean Watt) has also syndicated Dual Gr.1 winner SAVABEEL (Cox Plate and Spring Champion), POLAR SUCCESS – Gr.1 (Golden Slipper), ECONSUL – Gr.1 (Caulfield Guineas).
In fact, our Family proudly lay claim to 10 Individual Group 1 Winners of 13 Group 1 Races.
Q: What is your mantra for success in the syndication business both as a principal and as a shareholder/horse owner?
A: Our business philosophy is built upon four pillars; Transparency, Integrity, Client Service and Racetrack Success.
Q: What was your experience like with digital sales programs this year?
A: The Digital Sales platform has been a wonderful addition to our industry. We’ve been an advocate for the Online Sales Platform since its conception and to see it go from strength to strength has been a huge boost to an already thriving industry.
It’s been wonderful to see the Online Sales Platform well supported by some of the biggest names in our industry and we were delighted to purchase Jazirat from Godolphin via the Inglis Digital Sales Platform earlier this year.
Online Sales allow owners to quickly and efficiently trade on their stock, whilst allowing others the opportunity to replenish at the same time. In a year where COVID has disrupted ‘normal’ online sales have continued to allow our industry to flourish.
Q: Name your most favourite horse and why?
A: Savabeel. He was an unbelievable talent and to be part of his journey from yearling to multiple Gr1 Winner and then Champion Stallion has been truly satisfying. He recently reached 100 Stakes Winners and to think a horse that has shaped and changed an industry was purchased by my father is something that I’ll always marvel.
