Trainer Rob Heathcote is careful when talking about his cherished stable star, Rothfire. “His prospects of returning to racing are guarded, with a long rehab period of 9 months he is a 50/50 chance of returning to full athletic function again. Fingers crossed.”
Heathcote told Racenet his Gr. winner had so far recovered well from leg surgery
“The surgeon, Randwick Equine specialist Hayley Lang, was really pleased with how the procedure went.
So what’s the prognosis for the 3YO gelding who seemed to have the Australian racing world at his feet until injuring himself in the Gr.1 Golden Rose at Rosehill?
“It's certainly not possible to make any plans with him at this stage, at least not until 6 months has gone by.”
“We are optimistic he can recover and again reach the lofty heights he is capable of doing, said Heathcote.
“We have a long way to go but it‘s a good start on the road to recovery,”
“I am suggesting we give him about a year before we look at a return to racing to give him every chance to get back.”
Rothfire will be cared for at specialist equine care facility Emeran Park, on the NSW Central Coast for the first six months of his rehabilitation.
