Windsor Park Stud’s CEO Rodney Schick, speaks to The Impact about what to expect from Windsor Park’s quality draft, their past graduates and more
When you hear that champion racehorses So You Think, Might and Power, and Aerovelocity were all born, bred, and sold by Windsor Park Stud it does make you stand up and take notice. The nursery that brought up these Champions are responsible for breeding and selling a staggering 46 individual Gr.1 winners and over 150 individual stakes-winners. This year alone the Gr.1 winning Callsign Mav, Gr.2 winning Play that Song, and blue blood stakes-winning filly b, who fetched A$825,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions yearling sale have all been bred and sold by the stud.
With the upcoming New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka yearling sales upon us next month, Windsor Park Stud has an outstanding draft of 40 horses for sale. The draft certainly has an international flavour to it with stallions represented such as All Too Hard, Almanzor, Carravagio, Churchill, Deep Field, Impending, Rubick, Russian Revolution, Savabeel, Time Test along with progeny by their own promising young stallions Charm Spirit (Champion First and Second season sire), Shamexpress(Champion First Season Sire), Turn Me Loose (the champion sprinter/miler who’s oldest are 2yo’s and are showing a lot of exciting potentials), Mongolian Khan ( Dual Horse of the year who has some promising 3yo’s aimed towards derby’s) and Vanbrugh (the Gr.1 winning son of Encosta De Lago who oldest are just 2yo’s).
Along with this, Windsor Park Stud has prepared 11 horses to be sold in Australia through various drafts that stud master Rodney Schick believes should attract a lot of attention. “Our Magic Millions Book 1 horses are in the Kitchwin Thoroughbreds draft which includes 3 outstanding colts, they include one by Charm Spirit from the family of Melbourne Cup winner Vow and Declare, an outstanding colt by hot sire Brazen Beau out of Fastnet Rock mare b and an bcolt out of a half-sister to Champion So You Think”.
“In Book 2 at Magic Millions, through the Eureka draft, we have four lots going through a couple each by our young sires Rageese (Gr.1 performing son of Street Cry) and Vanbrugh. These 4 lots are purposely selected for this sale being precocious, well-muscled types who will suit the Australian market”.
“In Melbourne’s Inglis, the half-sister to Gr.1 placed Vassilator who won again at Flemington at the weekend, which is by Turn Me Loose, will be going through the Hollylodge Thoroughbreds draft and certainly one to earmark. In Adelaide’s Inglis sale, we have scheduled a Charm Spirit and three Rageese’s who have been targeted at the South Australian Sale.
Studmaster Rodney Schick commented “I’m really pleased with the quality in our drafts, we have a lovely line of horses which we have placed where we believe they are best suited. We certainly have some types we are proud of and think buyers will be impressed with”.
