Jockey Jamie Kah like likely to be aboard Nature Strip for the Black Caviar Lightning ride. Trained by Chris Waller Nature Strip could be a challenge for the top sprinter, who was unplaced in the race last year. This year, he has the super straight horse Bivouac to contend with.
It is understood COVID-19 protocols and a desire to ride Verry Elleegant first-up in the Apollo Stakes a Randwick on the same day has swayed McDonald to relinquish the Lightning ride.
If she scores the mount, Kah will become the ninth jockey to ride Nature Strip and the fifth since the gelded son of Nicconi joined Waller just days before winning the Gr.2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield in February 2019.
Kah has ridden two horses for Waller under race conditions but Nature Strip in the Lightning could be the first time she has been purposefully selected to ride a horse for Australia's leading stable.
