Up and coming jockey Campbell Rawiller has planned his move from Victoria to Sydney later this month to link up with the Waterhouse-Adrian Bott stable.
It was the same journey once taken by his Dad who started his riding career in Victoria but moved north in 2007 to kick-off what was to become a glittering working relationship with Waterhouse.
Top jockey Nash Rawiller has won 26 Group Ones for Waterhouse and now his 19YO boy will be working for racing’s first lady.
Apart from the opportunity of his young lifetime, another attraction for Campbell Rawiller in moving north to Sydney was reuniting with Dad.
Campbell Rawiller has plenty of happy memories from his childhood days of meeting racing’s first lady both on race day and at the owners' days at Tulloch Lodge.
Rawiller has ridden 102 winners in his short career including three at Flemington – but says he is happy to start from scratch in Sydney.
There was a point where an AFL career might have beckoned as young Rawiller was at one point in the Sydney Swans Academy.
But his love of racing grew when the family moved to Hong Kong many observers felt young Rawiller was so astute he was basically his Dad’s racing manager as he studied the races and form so studiously.
The teenager who hails from a famous racing family now gets to make his mark for another famous racing family.
