Sircconi (Nicconi) is being aimed at the Gr.1 Stradbroke Handicap and will take an important step towards that goal when he returns to track for the 1400m Sandown Hillside (Hcp), a race he headlines.
He has been allotted 60 kilograms for the firstup assignment and trainer Nick Ryan said the gelding will not take his place if the track is too firm.
Yesterday the track was rated soft, but warmer weather, up to 24 celcius, is forecast in Melbourne later in the week.
Sircconi has been plagued by injury issues throughout his career and hasn't raced since finishing 13th behind Mr Quickie (Shamus Award) in the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield last spring.
"He needed a good break as he pulled up a bit ordinary from the Toorak with the track hardening up throughout the day," Ryan said.
Sircconi showed his true colours last campaign, winning the Winter Championship (Listed) at Flemington, then two starts later finishing second to Savatiano (Street Cry) in the P B Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield.
