Despite the fact that David Redvers Bloodstock is over 25 year’s old, he is the Racing and Bloodstock Manager for Sheikh Fahad Al Thani and his brothers’ Qatar Racing operation and stands their stallions Roaring Lion, Zoustar, Charm Spirit, Havana Gold, Hot Streak and Lightning Spear, at his farm Tweenhills, and is considered one of theworld’s most influential people in the Bloodstock industry, Redvers is just getting started. The success they have garnered in Australia have just “whet” their appetite for expansion into the Australasian region.
Resetting the notion that you need to fit into just one box, the bloodstock consultant, farmer, stud farm owner and manager, syndicate principal has his eye on the prizeand for him for now, that prize is substantially increasing his holdings in Australia, while simultaneously attracting more investors for this expansion.

A: These yearlings were all purchased with the Victorian Alliance, a syndicate of breeders from Victoria, trying to identify future stallions amongst the best yearlings on offer in Australia. We took a small part of the syndicate and helped in the selection process.
Q: When you buy horses around the A$1 million mark, what is your process for selecting horses? Do you work with bloodstock agents when shortlisting bloodstock or is that more of an in-house process? And if yes, which agents do you work with? (Do you inspect horses on the farms? Do you get advance notification about those high-quality select horses as foals?)
A: In this instance, we worked with Suman Hedge and Ryan McEvoy and just saw them at the sales. They had been around the farms beforehand but being based in the UK we were unable to travel.
Q: This season you spent over A$7 million for 12 horses. Is this a typical size of purchase and typical annual spend? Will this be the last of your racehorse purchases or do you also look at the ready-to-race horses that are sold later in the year?
A: This syndicate has now completed its purchasing.
Q: What is your current portfolio size in Australia and what is the size you would like to see your portfolio at eventually?
A: With opportunities and prizemoney so strong in Australia I would like to grow our portfolio there considerably and am looking for further investors to join us on this exciting journey.
Our success in Australia so far only increases our appetite. Last weekend we won the Sydney Cup with Selino and picked up another huge prize, far more than he could ever hope to earn in Europe.
