Q: Over the season you’ve spent over A$7 million to buy 22 yearlings. What are your plans for these horses?
A: Most of these horses will go to Chris Waller’s stable. Then we evaluate the horses on their merits and they will tell us when they are ready to race.
of time and see what comes up.
Q: What are your processes when it comes to buying yearlings?
A: About a month before the sale, I look at sixty percent of the yearling on their farms. Then I typically go into the sale with a shortlist.
Q: Is the A$7 million figure you spent this year, typical of your annual spend? And have your yearling sales now completed? Or do you expect to do some buying during the winter sales and/or the Ready-To-Race sales?
A: Yes, it's about the same as last year. The market is strong this year, so the prices we’ve paid reflect the demand for quality yearlings.
Buying racehorses is a year-long process. You just keep doing different things at different points.
