Leading trainer Brett Cavanough has confirmed that undefeated yet injury-plagued Kosciuszko mare It's Me won't be racing on Everest day.
The 4YO Shamus Award mare injured her tendon while winning the $1.3 million Kosciuszko last spring. The 4YO was expected to complete her final stages of rehabilitation and return to racing this season. She was pointed at the 2021 edition of the Kosciuszko, which the daughter of Shamus Award will now miss.
“We just withdrew It’s Me from Kosciuszko because she developed an injury which has just put us back two weeks,” said Cavanough, “the program just became a bit too tight for me. She will now be aimed at a Black Type race a bit deeper in the Carnival side rather than just try and have her ready for that race on that day.”

“She is, she’s an immense talent, every time she stepped out onto the track the numbers she reeled off were top level,” said managing owner Sam Lyons of Grand Syndicates in a previous interview.
The connections also had the new A$2 million spring race ‘The Invitation' in their sights for the mare. The 1400 race for fillies and mares and is the richest race of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The field of 12 will be invited by a panel convened by Racing NSW, with invitations to be extended to fillies and mares from across Australia and New Zealand.
Brett also has a few news table stars including Patino Ruby who has already won over A$143,000 in prize money.
“Her figures last year, such as her last six hundreds and sectionals, when she was coming through those Country Races at Randwick against other leading horses measured up better than those horses on some of those big days,” said Cavanough.
