Talented Victoria-based experienced bloodstock agent Sherah Sullivan, instantly resonates as among the leading vendors in Australia. She speaks to The Impact about their excellent draft and the successes about their exceptional graduates.
Q: Please tell us about some of your top graduates and/or sales success.
A: Sullivan Bloodstock is obviously very new with horses being offered under our own banner at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Weanling and Broodmare Sale earlier this year. Some of the highlight lots were a Street Boss filly selling for A$170,000 and a Pierro colt also selling for A$170,000. We also consigned a lovely stake winning filly No Restriction on behalf of Three Bridges for A$230,000.
Q: Why does being schooled at Sullivan’s as a 2YO make a big difference to the long-term outcome of the racehorse?
A: The horses have been under the expert care of Joe Waldron whose background was eventing. The horses are well educated, well-schooled and therefore well balanced. Early education we feel is integral to the horse’s ability to compete at the highest level.
Q: Please tell us about yourself and your decision to leave Noorilim Park to start Sullivan Bloodstock.
A: I was afforded a wonderful opportunity at Noorilim Park in the early development of that farm. We had previously purchased a bare block which we had been developing over time and felt as though it was the right time to step out on our own and consign under my own banner. I’m very much hands on and like the satisfaction of preparing top class sales horses. My focus is really on operating a boutique operation and affording those horses the very best of care.
Q: What is your earliest racing memory? Also, please tell us about your favourite racehorse, racetrack and stallion and why are they your favourites?
A: My earliest racing memory would have to be of a filly called Popsy. At the time she was a bit of a star filly in my hometown of Matamata and she won the New Zealand Derby which was a big feat for a filly. I remember writing to Wexford Stables as a young girl and was delighted when they invited me to go and visit Popsy at their stables. It all very much stemmed from there and I started my first yearling prep job at JK Farm when I was about 15 years old.
Favourite racehorse would have to be Kings Will Dream. I was fortunate enough to assist in his road to recovery after he suffered a life-threatening injury in the Cox Plate. To see the horse make a full recovery and go on to win a Gr.1 was very special. He’s a beautiful soul and a horse I am very fond of.
Favourite stallion no question is Not A Single Doubt. I was lucky enough to spend time at Arrowfield Stud and also did a number of sales for them. His progeny are great to work with, very professional. Crystal Bound is a special favourite of mine being his daughter who I prepared for the Magic Millions sale. She looks to have an exciting future ahead of her.
Q: Is there a stallion that you consider to be under the radar and why?
A: I was fortunate to punt Shamus Award with a mare I part own last year when he was somewhat under the radar. I need to find the next one!
