The son of highly influential stallion High Chaparral, Gr.1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Wrote dominates the 8-strong draft bring presented by Brent Gillovic of Highview Stud in the upcoming NZB 2021 Ready To Run Sale.
Naturally, I like all the progeny of Wrote but there are two that I particularly like,” says stud principal Gillovic.
“Lot 303 is a full brother to And We Danced, etc. He looks very similar to her. He is a very similar type.
“He is a beautiful medium-sized horse who looks like he will certainly make a racehorse.
“He is more the sprinter-miler type of horse that’s typical of what Wrote throws. I really like him.
“And We Danced will be racing in the 1000 Guineas just before the RTR sale and so the owner and I are hoping for a favourable result,” he said.
Wrote was bred by Rob Speers and in addition to his win at Churchill Downs in 2011, he also finished third to then stable-mate Daddy Long Legs in both the Gr.2 Royal Lodge S. and the Gr.2 UAE Derby. The former Aidan O'Brien trained 8-year-old has been standing at Northwest Farm in Florida but a deal was struck to bring him Down Under, allowing New Zealand breeders to utilize him for his full potential.
“The fastest horse by Wrote in our draft is Lot 99,” said Gillovic.
“He is out of a Stravinsky mare, that has done well here
I would suggest he will definitely be winning soon.
“He is quite a speedy type of horse,” he said.
“In New Zealand, we have a lot of big scopy mares and Wrote tends to balance them out,”
“So we get well-balanced sprinter-miler types or we can get the NZ style typical classic horses,” said the stud manager.
“Then I have a Capitalist 2YO who is out of a Danehill mare called Aiden Sea.
“She is a Half-sister to Argentina. This is her fourth foal. Dam of two foals to race, both winners. Neptune's Choice has had 4 wins and Land Ahoy has had 3 wins. She also gave a good account of herself in the ATC Oaks last year,” he said.
“My son Kurtis bought the mare at the Magic Millons’ Sale about 18 months ago and she is the first foal we have had since we got her.
“He's a really nice horse. A beautiful mover.
“He has a nice size about him and he should do well as a 3YO,” said Gillovic with a smile.
“Another horse that I like is Lot 163. He is by Sacred Falls who unfortunately died. He has a really great pedigree.
“He is a big derby staying sort of horse. He should be perfectly suited to the Australian and New Zealand market,” said Gillovic.
NZB's Ready to Run Sale is the world's undisputed leading sale of 2YOs. The event is a prolific producer of Group One winners, Derby and Classic stars.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, closed borders within New Zealand make it impossible to host a physical auction at the iconic Karaka Sales Centre. As a result of this, this year’s Sale will now take place virtually and is set to be held at Te Rapa Racecourse on 17 and 18 November, which doesn’t faze the experienced horseman.
“The online system has successfully taken off. We provide photos and videos and give plenty of information for buyers to make a decision. The Ready To Run sale buyers can cope with that. I am hoping that we can go back to the physical sale format for the yearling sales program,” he said.
