With two bases in New Zealand, Riverrock Farm has flourished under co-owner Ormsby both in size as well as respect over the past eight years.
With a draft of 11 quality horses, the Riverrock farm makes one of the strongest offerings in the sale.
“From the colts, there are some here that will go to Hong Kong and Australia. Most of them are very versatile,” said Ormsby.
“We also have some horses that were bought by our clients, specifically targeting the Ready To Run sale.
“We have a couple of headline horses in our draft. The Toronado filly (Toronado – Wujimu) is a standout. She is really well-bred.
“Then we have a beautiful bay Ocean Park colt (Ocean Park – Showus) whose confirmation is simply outstanding.
“Two other quality horses headlining our draft are the Satono Aladdin – Polson colt and the Sacred Falls – Bint Piavonic colt.
“The Charm Spirit colt was also a very good-looking horse, but he has been withdrawn. He was pre-sold to a client in Hong Kong and is preparing to make his way there in a few months,” he said.
Chad Ormsby left his role as a junior training partner at Ballymore Stables, to focus on the development of Riverrock together with co-owner Aliesha Moroney. They have expanded the business into a successful breaking-in, re-education, thoroughbred racing and Ready to Run Sales preparation farm.
“Tony Gollan-trained Knight Mariner is one of our most successful graduates. He has over A$77,000 in career earning and two race wins so far. He is a half-brother to the Iffraj filly we have in the sale this year, says Ormsby.
“Another great horse we sold at this sale was Poet’s Landing. He is a 6YO now and has had 6 wins and 4 placings from 18 starts and a career earning of A$232,350.
“He breezed up really well and we sold him for NZ$270,000 in the RTR sale that year.
Chad and his team pride themselves on recognising the unique characteristics of every horse and achieving the best possible results for everyone.
“I always buy on type and not on pedigree. If there is a good pedigree behind them then that’s just a bonus,” he said, “and we sell them as complete athletes. Some are ready to go into training directly and some need a bit of a rest before they begin training.”
