An active buyer at sales, Bill Mitchell recently purchased a quality Deep Field filly, is the first foal out of Bolossomo, by Uncle Mo, from the Symphony Lodge draft at the 2YOs In Training Sale.
Retired Group One winning-trainer Bill Mitchell teamed up with his son James to form Mitchell Bloodstock, a decision that’s proven fruitful time and again. We speak to the much-respected bloodstock agent about his recent purchase:
Q: Please tell us about the horse that you purchased this year at the GC 2YO Training Sale. What are your plans for this horse? Is he going directly into training or are they more classic type horses? Is this horse is for yourself or for clients or to be syndicated? What races & for what distance do you think he is likely to do well?
A: We liked this colt and he breezed well. He is for HK clients and will go to work in Sydney.
Q: Did you get a chance to sight the horse or did you watch him breeze before the sale?
A: I saw him at the weanling sale but couldn’t get into Queensland so had a trusted agent inspect him.
Q: What did you think of prices vs the quality of horses on offer?
A: The sale was strong in line with all horse sales around the world. The quality at the sale is improving every year and buyers are gaining confidence in the breeze up concept.
Q: How long have you been buying at this sale? Please tell us about your more successful purchases from this sale.
A: I have been buying at the sale on and off for 10 years. The best purchase was Music Addition who cost A$130k. he was sold on to Hong Kong 6 months later for a nice profit.
Q: Which yearling sales will you be preparing for and what is your usual buying process when you typically buy at these sales?
A: We have already started inspections for Magic Millions in January. We will be purchasing about 6 and also do some shortlisting for trainers and syndicators.
