Hunter Valley-based Yarramalong Farm presents a mouth-watering lineup of 16 lots headlined by two colts from the exciting stallion Better Than Ready, who stands at Lyndhurst Stud and is one of the world’s leading stallions, Harry Angel.
Here we speak with co-owner Richard Foster about his showcase colts:
Q: Please tell us more about Lot 62, the full brother to Alpine Edge.
A: Lot 62 is a brown colt by Better Than Ready from Freezethemillions, his 2YO Stakes placed dam finished a close 4th to Brazen Bay in the Sires Produce Stakes and proved to be a sound and competitive young race filly. This colt is her fourth foal, with 3 to the races, all winners.
They have all demonstrated above-average ability. Lot 62 is very similar in type and mannerisms to Alpine Edge. He has a great constitution, a good mind and is an eye-catching mover. He is bred on a special nick, which is apparent in his grandsire More Than Ready and his Sire Better Than Ready. This is now a proven 3rd generation nick through Alpine Edge.
Lot 62 carries the legendary Buckpasser and his La Troienne family in the 4 female quarters of his pedigree. The colt is also a descendant of the influential matriarch Summoned, dam of the great Zeditave. This family continues to excel at the highest levels.
He is the result of 3 generations of careful Yarramalong breeding. We hope you like him.
Q: And what about the Lot 150 Harry Angel colt? What makes him special?
A: Lot 150 is a very nice brown colt from the Shadwell mare Istiraaha who is by Redoute’s Choice. He is the 1st live foal for a half-sister to the Group 1 miler Rewaaya who was trained by David Hayes.
Sriracha is from the wonderful Easy Date family of Snippets, Ertijaal, Sense Of Occasion and Not A Single Doubt. The family has been one of the most successful families for Shadwell and continues to produce stakes performers. Yarramalong purchased her in our upgrading program especially for our shareholding in the successful stallion, Better Than Ready. She was unraced due to an injury to her coupling.
Lot 150 is a very strong horse as you can see who has picked up recognisable features from both his parents. Harry Angel was one of the world’s highest-rated sprinters and this cross over the renowned, Redoute’s Choice broodmare strike rate, could well be a successful nick for Harry Angel. The colt possesses a terrific appetite and constitution with great length and sound, correct legs.
Q: And finally could you please tell us more about the first foal from Not A Single Woman?
A: Lot 324 is a brown colt by Better Than Ready. He's Not A Single Doubt dam is a winning sister to the stakes-placed Free Of Doubt and half-sister to the two times Group 3 placed Wazzenme from the family of Flemington spring carnival stakes winners Inspire and Our Joan Of Arc.
She was purchased in the Yarramalong upgrading program especially to mate to Better Than Ready. Not a Single Doubt is building an enviable Stakes record when crossed with More Than Ready and we feel we can duplicate that result with the Better Than Ready cross due to his similar genetic make-up to his sire More Than Ready.
If Lot 324 is anything to go by we could be right. The mating gives an abundance of 2YO genes, and this colt certainly looks like an early comer. We like the exceptionally correct and strong leg structure that both sire lines produce, combined with the constitution and strong minds coming from both sides of the mating. These characteristics are the hallmark of good early 2yo’s. Lot 324 embodies them all.
