Trainer Gordon Richards was quite happy with his top sprinter Gytrash at the Morphettville the jump-outs that were part of his build-up to the Gr.1 Goodwood in May. The son of Lope De Vega, hit the line-locked together with the Phillip Stokes-trained Neodium.
“He had only had one gallop before today and I didn’t want to knock him around too much,” Richards said.
“It was more than enough to satisfy me going forward.
“He was keen and his action was good so I am happy with him.
“I think he pulled up from it good, he was full of himself and bucked and kicked around in his sand roll," said the conditioner.
Richards said he will give Gytrash a gallop between races next Wednesday at Murray Bridge to have his star galloper ‘spot on’ for the Goodwood.
Gytrash has been absent from the racetrack since his win in the Gr.1 Yes Yes Yes Stakes Rosehill Gardens last October after surgery to remove bone chips from his nearside knee following that race.
Following rehab, rest and a month of pretraining on a water walker in Sydney, the 5YO returned home to Adelaide and Richards' Morphettville stables on Good Friday.
In the 2020 Everest, Gytrash ran third to Classique Legend (Not A Single Doubt) and is expected to make his second Everest attempt later this year.
"I intended to give him a couple of trials while I had him home and in work and then tip him out for another break," said Richards. "However, he is so clean-winded and such an athlete, it made sense to have a crack at the Goodwood."
