The son of Kuroshio Savatoxl proved himself yet again, claiming the Gr.1 Goodwood at Morphettville. The A$8,000 purchase, beat top Australian sprinters including Behemoth, who finished a disappointing seventh.
The victory was the horse’s 16th of his career and it brought up a second Goodwood win for his co-trainer Tony McEvoy, who won two years ago with Despatch.
A delighted McEvoy, who trains the horse with his son Calvin, said the horse originally came to him with moderate expectations. McEvoy explained that Savatoxl was sent to his stable with the plan of possibly winning a Balaklava Cup over 1600 metres with him, but McEvoy said he felt the horse could not run out a strong mile, so restricted him to sprint trips, where he has excelled.
McEvoy said he thought the horse would lead but was surprised when he was relegated back into the ruck after the jump.
Vorster took the inside path on Savatoxl to win by two lengths over Gr.1 winners Instant Celebrity and Gytrash.
The win was the first at Gr.1 level for he Exceed And Excel stallion Kuroshio.
