When Gerry Harvey’s racing manager, Luke McDonald, who is known as one of the most astute people in the industry says his draft for the MM 2YO in Training Sale is one of the strongest. One should listen.
“These are all Gerry Harvey-bred horses. He breeds about 200 horses each year and they are disposed at various sales across the year,” said McDonald.
“At the end we usually have about 35 to 40 horses left over. We break them in and send them to Queensland for training. They are then breezed and go into this RTR sale.
New Zealand-born McDonald is brother to recent Melbourne Cup-winning jockey James McDonald and oversees Harvey’s bloodstock portfolio of more than 1000 horses in Australia and New Zealand.
“We have some stunning horses in this draft headlined by Zoustar (AUS) X Metaphorical (AUS) and Zoustar (AUS) X Kakakakatie (AUS), Real Impact (JPN) X Reconstruct (NZ), Pariah (AUS) X Villa de Madrid (AUS) and Vancouver (AUS) X L'Amoureuse (AUS). These have been showing some really good ability.
We have a really good bunch of horses with good pedigrees and, great physicals,” he said.
Harvey is the owner of the Magic Millions auction house and the organiser of the 2YO-In-Training sale every November. He also owns Baramul Stud in the Widden Valley and has shares in Vinery Stud and New Zealand’s Westbury Stud.
Speaking about Baramul Stud’s racing successes he said,” Every year our horses go on to bigger and better things on the race track.
“That's why people continue to buy from us. We are extremely proud to produce such quality horses.
“Hopefully we can continue to do that for a long time.
