Hunter Valley-based Segenhoe Stud’s offering for the 2022 renewal of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale is headlined by Lot 591, the Dundeel colt out of the Snitzel mare, Sweetener.
Over the past ten years, Segenhoe Stud has been performing at just under 16% Stakes performers to yearlings ratio.
“The colt exudes quality with a beautiful head and colour while is also probably the best moving colt that we have,” says Brian Clarke.
“He’s a very precocious looking Dundeel with a big hip and a short back
“His dam is from the family of Secret Agenda (Not A Single Doubt) and the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained Enthaar (Written Tycoon) so it is very much a speed family,” he said.
Segenhoe’s leading graduates include recent Magic Millions graduates such as dual Gr.1 winning colt and first season sire King’s Legacy who was a A$1.4m purchase by James Harron Bloodstock and trained by Peter and Paul Snowden.
Other recent graduates sold through the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale include the Gr.2 winners Poland and Vangelic, the Gr.3 winners Holyfield, Barbaric and most recently Ellsberg.
“We have an absolutely magnificent Not A Single Doubt colt out of the Gr.3 winning and Gr.1 placed Sebring mare Miss Admiration (to sell as lot 261. The mare herself Miss Admiration raced in the Segenhoe colours and this colt is an outstanding first foal,” said Clarke as he provided a sneak preview of some of the most outstanding lots from their draft of 30 quality colts.
“Lot 12 is lovely Not A Single Doubt filly out of the Encosta De Lago mare, Houston Benefactor.
“She is a typical Not A Single Doubt progeny, strong, short coupled, great mover, precocious and flashy.
“Lot 669, the I Am Invincible filly out of Villa Carlotta, a Gr.2 placed daughter of Street Cry from the famous family of Redoute’s Choice.
“I would say this is our best filly, she’s just all quality with a great hip and a great action,” he said.
Segenhoe believes in sending their best to the Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale is evidenced by the fact that 26% of Segenhoe Stud’s 2019 Magic Millions draft alone have gone on to win Group races.
Segenhoe Stud will also be presenting quality consignments at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale where they will present a boutique draft of 9 yearlings and the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale where they will have a consignment of 25 quality horses.
Having worked with some of the greatest bloodstock managers in Australia, such as Duncan Ramage, Clarke has developed an eye for identifying the best.
“Lot 707, a terrific Shalaa filly out of Zara Bay, a Stakes placed sister to Merchant Navy and for me hails from one of the most active families around, Stakes winners coming from each dam on the page seemingly every season.
“Her first foal, Saucey Horsey (So You Think) is already a winner and I know the Maher and Eustace training partnership has big plans for her, thinking she could be a Gr.1 filly in the Autumn,” said Clarke.
Clarke is confident that the Magic Millions’ sale will go from strength to strength, putting paid to all the hard work the team has invested in delivering a high-class draft.
“Prize-money levels are at an all-time high here in Australia so there is no better time to buy a racehorse.”
“The Magic Millions team do a terrific job putting together the catalogue and attracting buyers and along with all the events outside of the sale complex make the Magic Millions at the Gold Coast, the place, where everyone wants to be come January, so hopefully that all translates into a strong sale,” said Clarke
