O”Gorman has been topping this Ready-Run sale for many years, and this year was no different. Her Her stunning bay was knocked down to leading bloodstock agent James Clarke who teamed up with champion Hong Kong trainer Ricky Yiu for A$330,000.
“The stallion is flying and the horse breezed well – he ticked so many boxes,” Clarke said.
“I liked the horse at the yearling sale here in January and Ricky really liked his breeze – he picked him out and I was delighted to be able to work with him at the sale today.”
The Sale has been a stronghold for the Asian market, and past graduates include Macau Gold Cup winner Star Of Yiu Cheung, and Singapore hero Lim’s Lightning.
Here we speak with O’ Gorman about her secret for success:
Q: Please tell us more about the four horses you sold at the GC 2YO Training Sale.
A: I sold 4 horses at the sale and 3 of them were inspected by bloodstock agents for clients that were unable to attend. 1 colt was purchased by trainer Kim Waugh who was unable to attend but liked the way the colt breezed up on video and has had winning success from past sale graduates that I have sold
Q: Do you know what is the plan for these horses?
A: I would always recommend giving the horses a spell after the sale however the Invader colt that trainer Kim Waugh purchased was a very early type and I know is now back in training after a short break
Q: What did you think of prices vs the quality of horses on offer?
A: It’s the same at every sale - the money is there if you take the right article. I offered 4 colts and sold all 4 for what I thought they were worth. On the whole I was very happy with the sale and the interest from buyers in the horses.
Q: Which yearling sales will you be preparing for and what is your plan/ process when you typically sell at these sales?
A: I will now start my yearling inspections at the Magic Millions in January and then onto the classic in Sydney, Premier in Melbourne, Magic Millions Adelaide and Perth. It was very tough trying to buy breeze up stock at the right price earlier this year and I don’t expect it be any easier in 2022.
