Trainer Danny O'Brien has confirmed that 2019 Melbourne Cup Vow And Declare is ready to defend his title against local and international challenges.
O'Brien's Vow And Declare is one of 174 nominations for the Melbourne Cup with 30 from overseas which include Russian Camelot, Prince of Arran (second in 2019), Master of Reality (fourth) and Twilight Payment (eleventh) while Northern Hemisphere-bred and now Australian-based horses, Fincher (Chris Waller) and Sound (Michael Moroney) are nominated ahead of their third consecutive tilt at winning the Melbourne Cup.
Dashing Willoughby and San Huberto are expected to contest both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup for the first time this year. They could be joined by Nickajack Cave (Peter Moody), Sir Dragonet (Ciaron Maher and David Eustace), and Delphi (Anthony Freedman) who have all been recently acquired by Australian ownership groups.
Delphi, a last start winner of the Gr. 3 Irish St Leger Trial (2816m) at the Curragh, is one of 15 Northern Hemisphere's 3YOs nominated for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
Noble Prize is one of nine Melbourne Cup entries for trainer Aidan O'Brien with his son, Joseph O'Brien, nominating seven horses for the race. The O'Briens supplied 20 of the Caulfield Cup's 34 international entries with Aidan O'Brien nominating the star trio of Japan, Magical, and Magic Wand exclusively for the Caulfield Cup.
