In a ray of positivity Racing Victoria has announced that Caulfield and Melbourne Cups would revert to normal handicapping limits. The minimum weight of 56 kilograms will stay in place in Victoria for September but Racing Victoria will revert to with the ‘’historic weight scale’’ for the feature Cups.
RV announced on Wednesday morning that it would make only slight adjustments to the higher weight scale that was introduced due to the complexities of COVID-19 protocols
The Gr.2 Bobbie Lewis Quality at Flemington and the Gr.1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield will have reduced minimums to 54 kilograms, but all other handicaps are to stay at the revised minimum of 56kgs.
RV also wishes to advise that the weights for the Gr.1 Caulfield Cup and the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup will be consistent with the historical weight scales for both races.
The conditions of the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups state that the topweight must have at least 58kg when handicaps are released. The minimum weight for both races is 49kg for 3YO and 50kg for horses four years and older.
