Racing NSW has slightly loosened its horse movement border ban. Horses currently located outside of Melbourne Metropolitan, which is the subject of Stage 4 restrictions until at least mid-September, will be allowed into NSW subject to the current policy for the Transportation of Horses from Victoria.
The decision comes after advice was received from Racing NSW's biosecurity expert that it is appropriate to review its position given the reduction in the amount of daily new cases in Victoria and the stabilization of the infection rate.
Previously Racing NSW had banned all movement of horses from Victoria, leaving border trainers stranded. Peter V'landys of Racing NSW had always maintained that the unpopular decision had been made in the best interests of the state's racing industry.
Racing NSW said it will continue to monitor the number of reported cases in Victoria to ascertain when it is appropriate to introduce phase two of the policy, which will allow horses located in metro Melbourne to travel to NSW.
