Bittersweet stories are part of every foaling season. This time we hear of a story from Holbrook Thoroughbreds.
Owned by Bob and Sandra Peters, blue-blooded Redoute’s Choice mare Antique Rose was a full sister to their star producers Broadway Belle and Arcadia, who are the dams of Gr.1 winners Regal Power and Arcadia Queen.
Antique Rose was in foal to their sire Pierro, so she was carrying a full sibling in the blood to that dynamic duo.
Sadly, she suffered bad dystocia when foaling a filly, leaving both mare and foal near death.
The mare sadly passed away, but the team at Holbrook and the Scone Equine Vets (David O'Meara) were able to save the filly after she was rushed to intensive care at Scone Vet Clinic in the back of Julie’s ute.
Fast forward a week and the miracle filly is back at home and has bonded with a foster mum called Emily.
