Pakenham has been named Victoria’s top-selling suburb of 2020 but its racing club has not enjoyed such levels of popularity in a quirk that has champion trainer Peter Moody puzzled.
Moody and Phillip Stokes are the highest-profile trainers to call the Pakenham Racing Club home and, whilst its location at Tynong are not attractive to some, the 56-time Group 1 winning trainer says its potential should still make it a destination club.
"At Pakenham, yes, you’re in the middle of nowhere but it’s wide open and you've got an abundance of room to do whatever you want and an abundance of potential for the Pakenham Racing Club and Racing Victoria to develop it into a world-class facility," he said.
You might see a few younger trainers get out there if Racing Victoria and the Pakenham Racing Club and ultimately the Melbourne Racing Club, who are closing Caulfield down, develop facilities out there to attract young trainers who are going to be the future of the industry.
