The Australian Turf Club’s world-class Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival has concluded in spectacular style with the running of Schweppes All Aged Stakes at Royal Randwick.
The six-week carnival at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick has played host to a total of 56 races of which 48 were run at Group and listed level.
Along with 18 Gr.1 races, more than $35,000,000 in prizemoney was distributed across the Carnival.
A total of 661 runners competed for three weeks at Rosehill Gardens and three weeks at Royal Randwick, including two weeks of sold-out crowds for the eighth running of The Championships.
The world’s richest race for two year olds the $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper was taken out by Stay Inside, ridden by Tommy Berry and trained by Richard and Michael Freedman.
Stay Inside is now being sought out as a possible runner in the $15 million TAB Everest in the Spring.
Among many other highlights of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival was the win of UK galloper Addeybb in Sydney’s richest Autumn race, the $4 million Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
It was Addeybb’s second consecutive win in the Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes for jockey Tom Marquand and leading international trainer William Haggas.
Another star performer was Godolphin’s runner up in the Longines Golden Slipper Anamoe, who continued his strong form winning the Gr.1 Inglis Sires two weeks later at Royal Randwick.
Australia’s eight-time Gr.1 winner Verry Elleegant further stamped her class with a win the Gr.1 Ranvet Stakes, followed by a second placing to Addeybb in the Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Hungry Heart had an excellent Sydney Autumn Carnival winning two Gr.1s, the Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill Gardens, before tackling The Star Australian Oaks which she won in impressive fashion for jockey Kerrin McEvoy and trainer Chris Waller.
Chris Waller was again crowned leading trainer after another dominant Carnival with 14 winners including 6 Gr.1s.
James McDonald rode 14 winners for the carnival, including four Gr.1s to take out the Leading Jockey.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering James Ross said: “This year’s Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival delivered world-class racing across the six-week period and featured some of the best local and international horses in many years.
