One of the key possibles for the A$15 million Everest Eduardo ended his season with a second Gr.1 win for trainer Joe Pride, with a front-running performance under Nash Rawiller in the A$1m TAB Doomben 10,000 (1200m).
The Gr.1 Galaxy Stakes winner, led the 11-horse field from barrier six and rolled along in the lead but appeared in danger of being swamped at the 200-metre mark.
However, he dug deep under Rawiller's vigorous riding, fending off the late-charging Wild Planet by a long neck with The Harrovian producing an excellent performance with a view to next month's Stradbroke Handicap in finishing third.
Vega One Trekking and Splintex rounded out the top-six with 1.5 lengths covering them over the line. Wild Ruler disappointed, finishing ninth.
Pride said the 7YO gelding Eduardo would be spelled following the Doomben 10,000, remaining in Queensland, ahead of being prepared for the Sydney Spring Carnival where surely the A$15m Everest in October will be on his radar.
