Greyville will host a pair of Gr.1 features tomorrow with the Daily News 2000 (Gr.1, 2000m) and the Woolavington 2000 (Gr.1, 1900m).
The Daily News 2000 is being seen as something of a head-to-head between a pair of Western Cape gallopers, Linebacker (Captain Of All) and Kommetdieding (Elusive Fort).
The former, trained by Vaughan Marshall, won the Cape Derby (Gr.1, 2000m) in February and had the Harold Crawford and Michelle Rix-trained Kommetdieding behind in third when winning an incident-packed KZN Guineas (Gr 2, 1600m) earlier this month.
Kommetdieding won three in a row before suffering a setback in January and was returning for the first time when caught up in interference last time. Meanwhile, the Woolavington 2000 looks to be an opportunity for South African triple tiara winner War Of Athena (Act Of War) to improve her impressive record, which stands at seven wins from nine starts. The Paul Matchett-trained star landed the SA Fillies’ Classic (Gr.1, 1900m) two starts ago.
