There were six heats for juveniles run at the Rosehill trials this morning and plenty of interesting winners, but none more so than a baldy faced filly by the sire that has everyone talking in Extreme Choice.
Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Hugh Bowman, Espiona was a fast finishing close second at her first barrier trial last month and this time produced a similar effort although even better!
A conspicuous last turning for home, Espiona let down impressively when angled into the clear and won the 900m heat by three-quarters of a length running away under a hold.
She’s a very likable girl and looks to have been well bought having been snapped up for $190,000 at Magic Millions by Star Thoroughbreds/ Randwick Bloodstock from the Torryburn Stud draft.
Bred by Torryburn Stud in partnership with Frank Cook, Espiona is the first foal of Dahooil, a lightly raced, blue-blooded O’Reilly mare that was also trained by Chris Waller and had just five starts never finish worse than fifth and winning at Warwick Farm.
Dahooil is a sibling to stakes-winners Bonny O’Reilly and Pretty to Sea from the family of Group I winners Vision and Power, Glamour Puss and Steps in Time, so Espiona has real depth to her pedigree that could see her make a very good 3YO.
